Using L9110 (or HG7881) with external power supply
i want drive dc motor l9110 h bridge ic using arduino uno external 12v power supply this
the breadboard l9110 using following :

attached schematic
if vcc 12v , ib , ia of l9110 conected 12v , connected 5v pins of arduino ... why arduino not getting fried? guess resistor has reason that? there better design?

there protection clamping-diodes @ i/o pins, in case voltage @ pin exceeds vdd+0.6v upper diode pass excessive current vdd. these diodes rated 5ma max.
of course schematics shows sub-optimal solution, atmega not possess open-drain outputs.
