Errors installing Fireboard, mp3player and PerForm - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i'm new joomla , i'm having trouble installing 3 extensions (1.5 rc3). 

fireboard install aborts message:
component install: db function failed error number 2006
mysql server has gone away sql=insert jos_components values( "", 'fireboard forum', 'option=com_fireboard', 0, 0, 'option=com_fireboard', 'fireboard forum', 'com_fireboard', 0, 'js/themeoffice/component.png', 0, '', 1 )

the mp3player module install worked okay, component install aborted message:
jinstaller::install: there folder called [...] /administrator/components/com_mp3player/

perform install has same error mp3player module:
jinstaller::install: there folder called [...] /administrator/components/com_performs/'

there no folders names.

i've tried setting full permission on administrator , component directories.

any suggestions?

an update, in case interested.

after first post (above) started trying in long thread on extension installation problems.  on subsequent tests couldn't far had these errors - kept giving various jftp errors.  set 777 permissions on half dozen directories, set var $ftp_enable = '0'; , checked var $gzip = '0' in config file. 

then found post said insert var $legacy = '1' in config file , suddently fireboard installation worked!  able install joomlaxplorer on first attempt.

i remembered had enabled enabled system_legacy plugin after first attempt, apparently there's defect there. 
i suspect original fireboard sql error may have been due hosting service dropping connection or random that.

unfortunately i'm still getting same "file exists" on attempts install perform , mp3player.  i've triple-checked , files not exist.  know if there pointers in file somewhere left on previous attempts install modules?  i'd appreciate suggestions can offer dealing this.

Indesign and MathType fonts

i having trouble getting indesign recognize mathtype fonts.  have been told move mathtype fonts on 2 indesign font folder.  copied mt-extra font file mathtype folder , pasted indesign font folder.  nothing changed.  indesign still gives me blank box after copy mt-extra font mathtype -->illustrator-->indesign.   guess need instructions on how transfer of fonts done correctly.  i'v looked @ install fonts manual indesign, not clear me on how it.  need utility fontexplorer this, or there other way.  what's weird working fine until had reinstall osx , reinstall cs3, font trouble started.  need toggle "activate-reactivate' adobe cs3 , don't know how close 20 max on this, worried that.  (i suspect because of note on forum might necessary).  thoughts appreciated. i'm using windows, advice may worth nothing...   1) shouldn't have deactivate id recognize fonts. 2) design science gives fonts away in type 1 , truetype flavors....
