Thread: Wireless card undetected after upgrade to 9.10

hi! introduction problem i'm having: long time, i've been on 9.04 , wireless worked quite happily. when upgraded 9.10, despair found laptop no longer detects wireless driver! before go on, should i'm rather inexperienced ubuntu in general, despite having used quite time.

anyway, onto informational part:
i'm using compaq presario cq40.
according lspci, wireless network card details follows:
code:
03:00.0 network controller: broadcom corporation bcm4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
lsusb shows following:
code:
bus 003 device 002: id 03f0:171d hewlett-packard wireless (bluetooth + wlan) interface [integrated module]
i'm not sure if ifconfig here relevant, since i'm following template posting these, i'll include here anyway:
code:
eth0      link encap:ethernet  hwaddr 00:1e:ec:af:75:15             inet addr:192.168.1.3  bcast:192.168.1.255  mask:255.255.255.0           inet6 addr: fe80::21e:ecff:feaf:7515/64 scope:link           broadcast running multicast  mtu:1500  metric:1           rx packets:4801 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0           tx packets:5194 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0           collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000            rx bytes:4379567 (4.3 mb)  tx bytes:1004240 (1.0 mb)           interrupt:31 base address:0x8000   lo        link encap:local loopback             inet addr:127.0.0.1  mask:255.0.0.0           inet6 addr: ::1/128 scope:host           loopback running  mtu:16436  metric:1           rx packets:16 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0           tx packets:16 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0           collisions:0 txqueuelen:0            rx bytes:960 (960.0 b)  tx bytes:960 (960.0 b)
now part throws me off: unfortunately never checked when wireless working. common sense tells me iwconfig output should not case:
code:
lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. pan0 no wireless extensions.
as module name, i'd include have absolutely no clue if it's there. i'll entire output of lsmod if needed later on, since it's bit spammy.

"sudo lshw -c network" gives me following, , think it's i'm having problems:
code:
*-network unclaimed description: network controller product: bcm4312 802.11b/g vendor: broadcom corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0 version: 01 width: 64 bits clock: 33mhz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 resources: memory:99700000-99703fff *-network description: ethernet interface product: rtl8101e/rtl8102e pci express fast ethernet controller vendor: realtek semiconductor co., ltd. physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:04:00.0 logical name: eth0 version: 02 serial: 00:1e:ec:af:75:15 size: 100mb/s capacity: 100mb/s width: 64 bits clock: 33mhz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress msix vpd bus_master cap_list rom ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=r8169 driverversion=2.3lk-napi duplex=full ip=192.168.1.3 latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes port=mii speed=100mb/s resources: irq:31 ioport:3000(size=256) memory:93410000-93410fff(prefetchable) memory:93400000-9340ffff(prefetchable) memory:93420000-9343ffff(prefetchable)
if i'm not inept think, first part relevant part. i've gone through ubuntu forums last few days trying fix this, , i've had limited progress. initially, broadcom sta wireless driver deactivated, , couldn't reactivate through system>administration>hardware drivers, citing kind of error , directing me log. reinstalled bcwm-kernel-source after that, , fortunately broadcom sta wireless driver activated. unfortunately, however, it's "not in use".

i'm not sure other information need add other fact i've been losing hairs on it. 9.04, able enable/disable wireless , wired network connections separately when right clicked on network icon on taskbar. right now, can disable wired connection.

please help! i'm getting headache using laptop next on bed instead of having on table. d:

in advance, though.

hm, apparently unclaimed means have no drivers it. i've got broadcom sta driver installed , activated, not in use. not sure how fix this. :\

edit: think problem may related wireless kill switch on keyboard. deactivates/reactivates wireless card properly, since 9.10 install enables/disables bluetooth.
