12V output with optocoupler not working

hi,

i'm doing small upgrade driving logic of system involving stepper motors. drive board rs-electronics 332-098 specsheet attached. should work 12v external control logic.

i did new logic of board arduino, i'm struggling connect 5v arduino 12v drive board. tried simple board external 12v power supply , optocoupler did not work planned (it did not work @ all).

the vout of circuit connected pin 24 (clock) of drive board , ground of optocoupler output circuit ground of drive board.

according tests:
1) stepper motor , control board working can drive old controller
2) optocoupler working can blink led it

so seems have screwed circuit design. should use (pull-up?) resistor in drive side of board?
my optocoupler should withstand 50ma current, same driving current of board. close match?

circuit:

drive board specsheet:

what driving before? here, have opto-coupler .... it's transistor.
when make arduino pin go high, output of transistor (the collector voltage) go low.

is want?

what value r2?  1000 ohm?

you have more control signals arduino goes drive board right? drive board has lines direction, , stepping size, , things that.
