Thread: No restricted video drivers work

i have strange problem has stumped me. when load restricted video drivers, display goes blank after initial boot messages. odd thing i've tried 2 different video card (one nvidia , 1 ati) , i've tried swapping monitors , cables -- same problem every time.

here specifics: i'm running fresh install of ubuntu 9.10. motherboard (asus m2npv-vm) has onboard nvidia geforce 6150 chipset. fresh install works , displays fine of course doesn't have of 3d accelerator features. after first boot of fresh install, given message restricted drivers available. if download , install them, upon reboot can see post messages , initial ubuntu logo, screen goes black , never see login screen (although suspect there). have tried downloading nvidia drivers website, same problem.

thought perhaps accelerated graphics portion of nvidia chipset faulty, bought graphics card pci-e slot -- visiontek ati radeon hd 4650. re-installed ubuntu fresh. same exact scenario. initial boot without accelerated graphics works fine -- once install restricted driver (now fglrx), blank screen after initial post , ubuntu logo.

changed out monitor , cable, didn't change anything.

have ideas?

can shut off onboard video in bios / startup ? mebbe that's causing prob.. software see add on card , works.

Indesign and MathType fonts

i having trouble getting indesign recognize mathtype fonts.  have been told move mathtype fonts on 2 indesign font folder.  copied mt-extra font file mathtype folder , pasted indesign font folder.  nothing changed.  indesign still gives me blank box after copy mt-extra font mathtype -->illustrator-->indesign.   guess need instructions on how transfer of fonts done correctly.  i'v looked @ install fonts manual indesign, not clear me on how it.  need utility fontexplorer this, or there other way.  what's weird working fine until had reinstall osx , reinstall cs3, font trouble started.  need toggle "activate-reactivate' adobe cs3 , don't know how close 20 max on this, worried that.  (i suspect because of note on forum might necessary).  thoughts appreciated. i'm using windows, advice may worth nothing...   1) shouldn't have deactivate id recognize fonts. 2) design science gives fonts away in type 1 , truetype flavors....
