i assuming had /dev/sda2 existing there , maybe planned use ubuntu?
thing creating partitions in advance is, have go manual partitioning in step 4 of installer, , tell ubuntu want use existing partition /, swap, /home, or ever. because there ext2 partition not take default.
on contrary, assume need , won't touch it.
in case wanted install in /dev/sda2 it's best do:
boot ubuntu cd, try ubuntu option, open gparted , delete newly created /dev/sda5 , /dev/sda6, /dev/sda3. note, swap, /dev/sda6 mounted, keys symbol next in gparted. have right-click , select swapoff able delete it.
after done, delete /dev/sda2 (if there no data on it). don't forget in gparted need click big green tick mark button in toolbar execute scheduled commands.
after of disk should remain /dev/sda1 , rest unallocated space, not belonging partition.
boot ubuntu cd, install ubuntu option, , use use largest available free space option. set in unallocated space. or create partitions manually if prefer.
