Use Zoom area for basic (linear) animation -- A-ha moment!
no question here; and, sorry if know this; but, had share...
i've been lamenting couldn't -- -- things move around within given slide in captivate. it's easy enough have things fade in , out using transitions; and, use flash (assuming have access that) create , importing own animations.
but, wouldn't nice have, say, image on screen , have move 1 place another, , able watch move? , relatively easily?
well, had a-ha! moment today -- creative use of zoom area.
- place 2 instances of "imagea" on slide, @ desired start , stop locations. let's call them imagea-start , imagea-stop
- insert zoom area.
- modify zoom area's properties (by double-clicking on both start , destination areas) that:
- start area:
- set frame width 0 (so don't seen outlines image moves across screen)
- use "no transition"
- destination area:
- set frame width 0
- click on "select image..." , navigate to/select imagea again. fill zoom area's destination area imagea, see "zoom" across slide
- start area:
- ensure both zoom area's start , destination panes same size imagea-start , -stop, respectively.
- place zoom area's start pane on top of imagea's start location
- place zoom area's destination pane on top of imagea's stop location
- adjust time line go: imagea-start|zoom area|imagea-stop --- butting right next each other. may need have zoom area overlap imagea-stop tenth of second.
preview , should see imagea slide across screen more-or-less seamlessly. you'll find need tweak size of imagea-stop and/or zoom's destination area. latter's size properties include untweakable margin between destination area's borders , inserted image
you can bit more creative: make imagea-stop bit bigger imagea-start, , sure destination area same size.
you can adjust slider in middle of zoom area tweak how image zoom.
so, allow slide image across screen. limited linear movement , maybe not sexy -- but, better yesterday (without going flash, is)!
if of have had own a-ha! moments, please share!

hi joe
i've done in similar fashion. use insert image function of zoom area without inserting image on slide image object. ensure both zoom area , zoom destination sized identically (easily done selecting both , using sizing options on context menu)
i'm guessing saying may zoom linearly meant in straight line point point b. true in can't define "motion path" can in flash. (i know enough flash dangerous). seems infer though perhaps may move horizontally right left or left right. points may diagonal or wherever need them.
cheers... rick
