Install Warnings on Mac OS X
i'd install air application on macbook, dire warning panel when doing so:
is safe proceed in face of warning? behavior unique mac os x or safari?
the panel comes on application install , assume comes air itself.
your appreciated.
this standard installation dialog air application not signed verifiable certificate. same dialog appear on windows or linux.
since air application has full access file system, , can read, write, or delete files, or send such information on internet -- full-privileged desktop application -- should wary installing air application installing other desktop application.
the things consider here are:
1. know publisher -- , trust them?
2. air install file come publisher?
if publisher listed "unknown" means developer signed application code signing certificate created. if recieved air file directly publisher via secure means (such https connection), then, assuming trust publisher, fine install it. however, if downloaded air file through other means, there possibility (small, not negligible) have not air file created publisher. when developer chooses save money not buying verifiable certificate reputable certificate authority, possible malicious entity create forgery of application. there no way air determine whether air app came actual publisher -- have yourself.
i encourage publisher commercial code signing certificate. if every user of popular application tweetdeck donated, say, nickle or dime, developer's costs covered -- , users safer.
