Thread: E160E USB modem won't detect in Ubuntu Hardy 8.04

hi,

attempts find solution problem have come short.

running ubuntu hardy 8.04 , network manager access wireless router @ home.

however, bought new optus wireless broadband usb modem. it's huawei e160e hsdpa usb.

installation instructions can find ubuntu go system > preferences > network connections, in ubuntu, have in preferences or administration network proxy, network , network tools. none of these seem me further in instructions i've found.

example (from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...13#post8388313)

method 2 - if modem not automatically detected
7. click on "system" -> "preferences" -> "network connections"
8. click "mobile broadband" tab, click on "add" button
9. click "forward" , follow steps install mobile broadband account
10. make sure have "auto-connect" box checked
11. make sure have "available users box" unchecked

can me this? can't seem further, modem doesn't autodetect, , can't find way of changing configuration of network manager detect device.

ideas?
