i have fair bit of experience in world of computing, hardware , windows.
have written few scripts before far goes in regards programming.
recent convert ubuntu.(from windows).

trying delve world of programming , having success python. hoping here:

have been following few tutorials on devshed, , planning write python program few simple things pdf's.
1 of guides have been using

if write python program utilises modules have download/import reportlab , pil possible integrate these program? (assuming opensource etc)
if possible run within os? run problems programming in linux hoping run in windows?
playing around python 2.6 should worried converting 3.0 etc. 3.0 backwards compatible?

have missed or barking wrong tree, aiming read values pdf, combine pdfs, add pages, , (if force me) use info create database of pdf's.
possible using python? better off using language? (?java?)

if they're opensource, sure.
long system has python interpreter, should run smoothly on windows too. kind of java.
python 3 not backwards compatible. changes aren't dramatic , there tool converting sourcecode 2 3. tool name 2to3 if remember correctly. should propably start learning v3 if you're beginning 'cause 2.6 disappear eventually.
