Thread: New 9.10 installation on a machine with Intel Raid
hello everyone.
question going flag me being bit green ubuntu, must confess in 15+ years in i.t., have never had such hard time understanding partitioning scheme........
here's i'm at.
installed 9.10 live cd , selected option use entire disk. system has intel raid controller built in motherboard , 2 80gb hard drives in mirrored configuration. system has been used both xp , freebsd , never had issue partitioning or, more importantly, getting boot manager work.
live cd partitioned hard drives, installed software , mount points, , claims finished. when reboot, no boot device found. if boot again live cd , select option boot hard disk, , in fact typing message system. however, nothing can make thing boot without bloody cd.
i've spent hours trying figure out how make grub work, or how fix mbr no luck. drives don't show /dev/hda or logical can discern, can't construct workable install-grub command. doing df gives me this:
/dev/mapper/isw_bijdhbibeb_volume01
73955516 2750748 67447972 4% /
udev 508404 188 508216 1% /dev
none 508404 368 508036 1% /dev/shm
none 508404 88 508316 1% /var/run
none 508404 0 508404 0% /var/lock
none 508404 0 508404 0% /lib/init/rw
none 73955516 2750748 67447972 4% /var/lib/ureadahead/debugfs
/dev/sr0 706532 706532 0 100% /media/cdrom0
not informative, it? freebsd never such pain make boot.
frankly, i'm not impressed clean install (non dual boot) on such standard hardware configuration difficult make boot loader work. documentation on subject voluminous shabby. have searched , searched , cannot find mention of hardware mirrored ide or sata drives, nor dev show as. frustrating. every tutorial i've read on installing grub2 or grub doesn't work, because dev not right.
can shed light on bizarre behavior , perhaps offer advice allow me boot system without use of live cd?
thanks!
when not boot, see messages indicate errors or other problems?
intel raid setup, trying install on linux dmraid setup or fakeraid likely. had problems getting grub recognize windows partition had raid setup, may grub problem, here link may figure out issue.
