Thread: Getting airport card to work

i'm onto next step, getting airport card recognized. found following site gives instructions how to that:

http://jomcode.com/fadhil/2008/broad...river-bcm4312/

gives following instruction don't understand:

"here’s gist of instructions were:

untar file hybrid-portsrc-x86_32_5_10_27_6.tar.gz (hybrid-portsrc-x86_64_5_10_27_6.tar.gz if you’re running on 64-bit kernel) in own folder:

tar -xvzf hybrid-portsrc-x86_32_5_10_27_6.tar.gz

should see in directory listing:

hybrid-portsrc-x86_32_5_10_27_6.tar.gz
lib
makefile
src

build loadable kernel module (lkm) so:

make -c /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build m=`pwd`

of course, need make sure have required kernel headers before building it. once that’s done, directory listing should this:

built-in.o
hybrid-portsrc-x86_32_5_10_27_6.tar.gz
lib
makefile
modules.order
module.symvers
src
wl.ko
wl.mod.c
wl.mod.o
wl.o"

part in bold don't understand. can enlighten me?

do have airport old fashioned ? maybe stupid question, thought simple kernel module. happens if you:

code:
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter (when asked "fetch , install firmware?" answer "yes" (just press "enter) ) sudo modprobe b43 sudo iwconfig
do see wireless stuff ?
