How to place an ampersand in a URL

i creating url in script (sourcedoc.textframes[y].url='http://mapssvg?id=123&align=left';)

 

this working great except illustrator insists on changing ampersand &. have tried "%26" , "& without success. have tried escaping ampersand. no luck there either. there way this?

tcp client
