Thread: Video Driver Issues
hi,
here's problem:
have ati 5770 gpu, and, until couple of days ago, have never had problem drivers (i have had use proprietary drivers card not yet supported open source ones).
couple of days ago, however, became difficult boot ubuntu. machine run through post , screen go black , system restart. managed ubuntu running in safe mode (ctrl alt f1 wasn't working), uninstalled , reinstalled same drivers. since then, ubuntu has been booting, there large black margin around edge of screen (i picture occupies 90% of screen).
have widescreen (16:9) monitor, and, when fiddled resolutions, changing 4:3 or 16:10 aspect ratio made picture fill screen again (in stretched way, obviously). however, when run 16:9 settings - lower resolution - margin present.
have catalyst 9.12 driver. tried installing hotfix, didn't accomplish (except added watermark corner of screen).
don't think issue monitor, there no buttons on change size of picutre.
have heard couple of other people have problem, general consensus issue comes problem xorg 7.5. know running xserver 1.6.4, don't know how tell version of xorg have.
final thought, i'm sure gpu supported open source drivers come lucid. wouldn't feel comfortable running lucid (i'm pretty new linux), willing give try if people think best solution problem (worst happen = reinstall... whatever, don't care doing that).
appreciated.
thanks!
have tried dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg ?
