I cannot open any Adobe .doc files with Adobe Reader. Why?

i cannot open adobe .doc files adobe reader.  why this.  when try receive following message:

 

this files not have program performing action.  create association in set associations control panel.

 

so, associated adobe reader because has adobe icon associated it.  no go.  same notice.  how open these ".doc" files?

adobe reader associated .pdf files.

 

.doc files associtated microsoft word.  if have ms word installed, associate .doc file type, if not, install microsoft word viewer.
