Trying to connect Hitachi HD44780 to Arduino Mega

forgive me if answer blindingly obvious seem stuck on must virtually lesson one.

i have constructed few arduino circuits (leds, potentionmeter, temp , humidity sensor) have grasp of basics.

i trying connect lcd display of 16 characters 2 lines.
the file included arduino software in example folder seems short of bit of information.

it gives details of connections pins rs, e, d4, d5, d6, d7 , r/w says

10k resistor without saying or is connected

"ends +5v , ground". "ends" mean? vss pin @ 1 end , k pin @ other , if end gets +5v?

it says "wiper pin v0".  guess means need include pot in circuit somewhere. control brightness of display?

i need learn libraries if progress.  can recommend book give me insight them?

tcp client

hi all   does flex 2.0 have html component? render html pages local hard disk , remote server. how achieve in flex 2.0?   thanks in advance...   regards prashanth i believe can air application, "uses open source webkit engine".  did come across component:   html component but not sure if available flex builder 2.0.  have price tag.
